Kingdom Thoughts

We sang a hymn in chapel that I had not heard before. That's not really shocking. I often tell people I was a poor Baptist, evidenced by, amongst other things, the fact that I never learned any hymns... Moving on, the chorus struck me:

"Bring forth the Kingdom of mercy
Pray for the Kingdom of peace
Work for the Kingdom of justice"

Justice, Mercy, Peace. All things I hope I am furthering here in Haiti. I sat wondering how often those are the words that are associated with the Church and her followers. Mercy? Peace? Justice? I fear that rarely do those words describe us.

I had a mentor who used to say that the Kingdom of God is an "upside-down kingdom". He used the phrase to talk about servanthood. Today I thought about how upside down it really can be.

In other news, Texas Instruments rocks! My mother-in-law, the unofficial banker, secretary, shipping-and-receiving clerk, and in general amazing person that makes what we do in Haiti a little bit easier, sent this picture yesterday. The calculators are at our rest-stop in Dallas. Very prompt TI!
