Learning from the Sin of Sodom

Fascinating article in the New York Times by Nicholas Kristof called "Learning from the Sin of Sodom". What's the "sin of Sodom"? We all think we know. Well, turns out I haven't read my Bible well enough, because Kristof reminds us it's actually...

"Now this was the sin of your sister Sodom: She and her daughters were arrogant, overfed, and unconcerned; they did not help the poor and needy." Ezekiel 16:49

  1. Lots of sinning going on in Sodom. In Revelation, Jesus talks about spitting (vomiting?) a group out because they were "lukewarm"! Clearly God has some higher aspirations for us than we do of ourselves.

While Mr. Kristof does have some points, I think he tends to lump a lot of folks in a big basket. Clearly all evangelicals are not the problem as I'm guessing most of the funds and staff for World Vision come from that group of people. America is by far the most giving nation on earth. But, would Jesus want to vomit a bunch of us out? That is a good question; surely the one we should be concerned with.
