Rain on the roof.

It is a very quiet night in Haiti. A soft rain is falling, which I am told is unusual because this is their dry season. It is very dusty; homes must be swept and mopped once a day or a fine dust settles on everything. We moved furniture in to our apartment and then came back the next day and just enough dust was on all of the surfaces to write my name across our new dresser. I mark my territory.

I am currently reading “A Million Miles In A Thousand Years” by Donald Miller. Great Book. Offical BK seal of approval. Read it and be changed.

A good portion of his book is spent exploring what makes a good story and talking about how we live our lives is generally opposite of that. He talks about living intentionally, developing a good plot to your life, having a goal ,and overcoming some fear to accomplish that goal. Overcoming fear…

It is a good time to read that. I will be honest, my first 48 hours here I was scared shitless. I am still scared, but I have had a bowel movement since then so things are looking up. I was really worried I made a terrible mistake coming here. For a laundry list of reasons. In fact now that I am here I can think of more reasons to leave than to stay. But man, this is where God wants me to be. Why? I have no idea. What can I contribute? Not much. But this is the place where we are supposed to be, and I am waiting on God to use me.

I really want to encourage you to do a few things. One, please get your hands on a copy of, “A Million Miles In A Thousand Years”. It is really a great book that will challenge you. Second, continuing on Don Millers book. I implore you to think about of your life is a good story and if not write a new chapter. Run a race, lose weight, conquer fears, switch careers, change that thing about yourself that you do not like. Or ya know move to a new country…

  1. Your mother would tell me what to do in college and now you are telling me what to do too! I have requested my copy of "A Thousand Miles" from Paperback Book Swap and await it eagerly.

  2. Take courage. He is with you. :-)

  3. Haha. I love reading these and trying to figure out if it's Katie or Ben speaking.... this post was definitely Ben. A refined southern woman would never use "shitless" in her speech :)

Missing you both and praising the Lord for where He has you.
